Mumbai Renowned writer, director and producer Todd Phillips presents Joker: Folie a Dou. Ever since the Academy Awardwinning film Joker in 2019, audiences have been eagerly waiting for its sequel. The original film Joker grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. It is ranked as the highestgrossing Rrated film of all time. In the new film, Joaquin Phoenix once again plays the dual role of Oscar winner Arthur Fleck / Joker. Lady Gaga, who was an Oscar winner for the film 'A Star Is Born', is also playing a strong role in this film. In 'Joker: Folie a Dou', Arthur Fleck is in Arkham Asylum, awaiting trial for his crimes as the Joker. While dealing with his dual identity, he finds true love. Along with this, he also finds the music that has always been within him.
The film also stars Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson for 'The Banshees of Inisherin' and Oscar nominee Catherine Keener for 'Get Out' and 'Capote'. Zazie Beetz is reprising her role as the 'Joker'.
Speaking about his initial conversations with Joaquin Phoenix about recreating Arthur's mental and physical state, Phillips says, “It wasn't like I was seeing him for the first time, because I had spent months with him before. But Joaquin is one of the most dedicated actors you could ever work with, so we discussed losing weight again early on in the process. I said Arthur didn't need to be as skinny in the sequel as he was in the first movie. But Joaquin wasn't willing to do that.
In fact, they wanted to go even thinner.” Talking about when and why the idea for a Joker sequel came about, Phoenix says, “Todd and I started discussing a sequel when we were about halfway through shooting the first film. This was well before Joker was even released. Even then, we both felt there was still a lot to explore with the character and I loved the idea and challenge of continuing the story, but we had to explore multiple tones.”
Warner Bros. Pictures presents Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie a Dou, a joint effort. The film will be released worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. In India, the film will be released in cinemas on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 and will be shown on IMAX screens from October 4 in English language only.
