Mumbai Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, who is away from acting due to motherhood duties, has praised cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who has announced his retirement from international cricket.
The actress shared a video of BCCI in the stories section of her Instagram and wrote, “A lasting legacy”.
Ravichandran Ashwin was one of the strongest forces of the Indian team during his stint in international cricket and is considered one of the greatest spinners of all time. He was also a part of the team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy, where he bowled the last over in the 2013 final, leading India to victory.
Ravichandran Ashwin also contributed to Indian cricket with his bat as he provided strong support in the batting department lower down the order.
Ashwin also played the second pink ball Test in the ongoing BorderGavaskar Trophy. He was left out of the team for the third Test of the series, where India struggled in the first innings. However, after the match was saved due to rain and the match was drawn, Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket, and left for India on the same day of the announcement.
With this move, he contradicted captain Rohit Sharma's statement in which he had said that the veteran spinner would leave just a day after announcing his retirement.
Ashwin has taken over 700 wickets in international cricket and over 500 wickets in Tests, making him among the top ten wicket takers in Tests. He has scored more than 4000 runs in international cricket with 6 centuries and 14 halfcenturies in Tests.
He is in second place after India's legendary spinner Anil Kumble. After Ashwin's departure, Team India now has a reliable player in Ravindra Jadeja at that position and in the spin department. The upcoming 2 matches will decide the fate of Team India and its qualification for the WTC.
