The 2024 Bollywood film Missing Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, was selected as India's official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars 2025. However, the film starring debutant Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goyal and Sparsh Srivastava failed to make the top 15. Yes! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday announced the shortlist in 10 categories for the upcoming 97th Oscar ceremony. However, Kiran Rao's Missing Ladies was not included in the shortlist for the Best International Feature Film category.
Made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Kindling Pictures and Jio Studios, the film Lapata Ladies was released in theaters on March 1 this year. The production house has issued an official statement on its film failing to make it to the final category list at the Oscars this year.

It is noteworthy that Missing Ladies is based on the background of rural India. It revolves around the story of two young brides who get exchanged in a train. One track from the film 'Sajni' is still liked today and is the most popular on social media. On Spotify India, it is one of the top tracks of 2024 and has been streamed over 186 million times.
