Mumbai . Director Nikhil Advani once recalled the moments he spent with late Irrfan Khan, Manoj Bajpayee and Anurag Kashyap over neverending sips of tea.
Inspired by the issue of whether tea from Banaras, Kanpur or Bareilly is the best, their discussions touched upon life, cinema and everything in between. Advani narrated how their friendship blossomed over tea and some memorable conversations took place.
Speaking on Cyrus Broacha's podcast 'Cyrus Says', Nikhil shared, “We all used to hang out together, Manoj Bajpayee, Irrfan Khan, Anurag Kashyap. At that time, no one had any money. The rule was that you have to eat food. You can, but if you want alcohol, you have to bring your own, and there was a terrace where we spent two or three days just talking. Used to debate whether Banaras tea is better than Kanpur or Bareilly tea, I, being a boy from South Bombay, was unfamiliar with it – What is Banaras tea? Why were you emotional and why did you discuss it in such pure Hindi?”
Advani recalled the incident related to film producer Karan Johar. In which he told that he and Karan Johar were neighbors and after getting the opportunity, he started teasing Karan.
If we talk about Nikhil Advani's work, he is known for directing films like 'Batla House', 'Delhi Safari', 'SalaameIshq', 'Patiala House' and 'Chandni Chowk to China'. Their new project, 'Freedom at Midnight', is inspired by the iconic book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins.
Produced and directed by Advani, the series stars Siddhant Gupta, Chirag Vohra and Rajendra Chawla and premiered on November 15 on Sony Liv.
