According to the report of Times of India, a senior official of the Railway Ministry said that Russia is eager to get trains and its components manufactured in India to meet its domestic needs. Last week, Russia's leading railway company TMH had expressed interest in this plan.
Russia wants to supply trains from India
On Russian investment in the railway sector in India, the official said, 'Russia has huge domestic needs. For this they want to set up manufacturing facilities here. They want to take this supply from India.'' TMH CEO Kirill Liepa told a group of Indian journalists at the company's headquarters in Moscow, 'The current interest rates in India are quite different compared to other countries. Therefore, we are interested in investing in India and are fully prepared for it. We are interested in developing multiple factories in India that will manufacture various components. Many of these can be supplied to the Russian market.
Contract worth Rs 55,000 crore
At present Russia has many supply contracts with India. Lipa said, 'We have historically good relations with Indian suppliers. This means that we can increase this import from India to Russia. TMH, a key stakeholder in Kinet Railway Solutions, has signed a Rs 55,000 crore contract with Indian Railways to produce 1920 Vande Bharat sleeper coaches and maintain them for 35 years. He claimed that the current restrictions will not have any impact on this project.
