Retail inflation for agricultural workers and rural labourers declined to 5.96 per cent and 6.08 per cent, respectively, in August, as against the comparable figures of 6.17 per cent and 6.20 per cent in July this year. The All-India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Workers (CPI-AL) and Rural Labourers (CPI-RL) recorded a rise of 7 points each in August 2024, reaching the levels of 1297 and 1309, respectively, PTI reported.

According to the news, CPI-AL and CPI-RL were 1290 points and 1302 points respectively in July. A statement from the Ministry of Labor said that the year-on-year inflation rate based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL for this month (August 2024) was recorded at 5.96 percent and 6.08 percent, while in August, 2023 it was 7.37 percent and 7.12 percent. The corresponding figures for July, 2024 were 6.17 percent for CPI-AL and 6.20 percent for CPI-RL.
Wholesale inflation at four-month low in August
According to recently released data, wholesale inflation fell to a four-month low of 1.31 percent in August due to cheaper vegetables, food items and fuel. However, prices of onion and potatoes remained high. Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation declined for the second consecutive month, while it had reached a high of 3.43 percent in May. It fell by 2.04 percent in July and 0.46 percent in August 2023.
Retail inflation for industrial workers in June
Retail inflation for industrial workers came down to 3.67 percent in the month of June this year due to the reduction in prices of some food products. According to the Ministry of Labor, inflation came down to 3.67 percent on an annual basis in June 2024, while it was at 5.57 percent in June 2023. Retail inflation for industrial workers has also come down on a monthly basis. It was at 3.86 percent in the month of May. The All India Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) for industrial workers stood at 141.4 points in June 2024. Earlier it was 139.9 points in the month of May. The index of food and beverage group under CPI-IW stood at 148.7 in June while it was 145.2 points in May.
