farmers of the country The Modi government is constantly making efforts to increase the income of farmers. It has also got considerable success in this. In this direction, the Modi government has approved the continuation of PM-Asha scheme with a budget of Rs 35,000 crore to provide better prices to farmers and control the fluctuation in the price of essential commodities for consumers. An official statement said that the Union Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the continuation of the schemes of Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-Asha) to provide beneficial prices to farmers and control the fluctuation in the price of essential commodities for consumers.

Will get benefit in buying crops on MSP

This will help states procure more of these crops at MSP from farmers to prevent 'distress' sales. “However, this limit will not apply in case of tur, urad and masoor for the season 2024-25 as 100 per cent procurement of tur, urad and masoor will take place during the season 2024-25, as decided earlier,” the government said. The Centre has renewed and enhanced the existing government guarantee to Rs 45,000 crore for procurement of notified pulses, oilseeds and coconut kernel (copra) at MSP. This will help in procurement of more pulses, oilseeds and copra whenever market prices are below MSP. Procurement at MSP will be done by the agriculture department from farmers, including farmers already registered on the e-Samridhi portal of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and e-Samyukti portal of National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India (NCCF).

It will help in preventing hoarding and speculation

The scheme will help discourage hoarding and speculators. Whenever prices in the market are higher than the MSP, procurement of pulses at market price will be done by the Department of Consumer Affairs, involving farmers pre-registered on NAFED's e-Samridhi portal and NCCF's e-Samyukti portal. Apart from buffer maintenance, interventions under the PSF scheme have been made in other crops like tomato and subsidized retail sale of Bharat Dal, Bharat Atta and Bharat Rice. To encourage States to come forward towards implementation of Price Deficit Payment Scheme (PDPS) as an option for notified oilseeds, the coverage has been increased from the existing 25 per cent to 40 per cent of state oilseeds production and the implementation period has been increased from three to four months for the benefit of farmers.
