How to book Current Ticket : Diwali is about to come. People working away from home and students are planning to go home. In such a situation, reservation in trains is running full on many routes. The situation is even worse in trains going from Delhi to UP and Bihar. Can't say whether I get a seat in Tatkal or not. In such a situation you have another option. This is the option of current ticket. The interesting thing is that after the train reservation chart is prepared, you can travel by booking a current ticket. Let us know what it is and how to book it.
Booking on vacant seats after charting
Customers can book current tickets through IRCTC's app and website. Railways generally opens train ticket booking three months before the scheduled date of train running. Then, Tatkal quota ticket booking opens one day before the train running date. If you miss both normal and tatkal tickets, you can try the current ticket system. According to the IRCTC Website, “Current booking is done on vacant seats after charting.”
How to book current ticket from IRCTC app?
- Step 1. Open the IRCTC app. Log in using your credentials.
- Step 2. Click on the 'Train' button and type your destination and source station.
- Step 3. Since this is a current ticket booking, the date of journey should be the same as the day on which you are booking the ticket. For example, today is October 13, 2024, so that will be your travel start date. Once you have selected the source, destination and departure dates, click on the 'Find Trains' button.
- Step 4. The list of all available trains on the selected route will appear on the screen. Click on your preferred category of ticket-CC, EC, 3AC, 3E etc. If there is a current ticket available for the selected train, it will show as 'CURR_AVBL-'. Book your ticket here. The chances of obtaining a current ticket are higher on less used routes than on routes with heavy passenger demand.
There are 3 types of ticket booking
General : You can book normal train tickets through IRCTC. This ticket can be booked maximum 3 months in advance.
Immediately : Tatkal e-tickets can be booked a day in advance for selected trains. Tatkal tickets can be booked from 10:00 am for AC class (2A/3A/CC/EC/3E) and from 11:00 am for non-AC class (SL/FC/2S). For example if the train is scheduled to depart from the originating station on 2nd August, Tatkal booking will start at 10:00 AM and for Non-AC class it will start at 11:00 AM.
