Government proposes task force to achieve 500 GW renewable energy capacity – Top News Bulletin


The government has proposed to constitute a task force in consultation with the Ministry of Power to meet India's target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi gave this information on Friday. According to PTI news, the New and Renewable Energy Minister has also asked industry players and stakeholders to prepare such a strategy. This initiative will help the country achieve this target in a time bound manner.

India on track to surpass the target

According to the news, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), speaking at an event in Bhubaneswar, proposed the formation of a task force in consultation with the Power Ministry to align the efforts of all stakeholders towards meeting the 500 GW target. kept. He said India has already achieved 212 GW of energy from non-fossil fuel sources and is on track to surpass the 2030 target. The government will continue to support technological advancements and innovations in the clean energy sector.

Share of renewable energy at 46 percent

The share of renewable energy in the total installed electricity generation capacity in the country has reached 46 percent. The total electricity generation capacity in the country is 452.69 GW. The ministry said the total renewable energy capacity in the country has crossed 200 GW (one gigawatt equals 1,000 MW). India's capacity increased by 24.2 GW (13.5 percent) in just one year to reach 203.18 GW in October 2024.

total power generation capacity of the country

The total power generation capacity of the country has reached 452.69 GW. The share of renewable energy in this is more than 46.3 percent. The total generation capacity of non-fossil fuel i.e. clean fuel based power plants in the country, combined with nuclear capacity, stood at 211.36 GW while in 2023 it was 186.46 GW. Of the total 203 GW, solar energy has a share of 92.12 GW, wind energy 47.72 GW, large hydro projects 46.93 GW and small hydro projects 5.07 GW.
