The number of domestic air passengers in India increased again in September 2024. According to the news, according to DGCA, IndiGo's market share increased to 63 percent in September 2024, while Air India's share increased to 15.1 percent. AIX Connect, which merged with Air India Express this month, tops the list of airlines in terms of on time performance (OTP) with 70.1 per cent, replacing Akasa Air, which had on time performance at 62.1 per cent. The total domestic market share of the Air India group, including Air India, AIX Connect and Vistara, reached 29.2 per cent. In September, Akasa Air and SpiceJet carried 5.73 lakh and 2.61 lakh passengers to destinations respectively. Akasa Air's market share stood at 4.4 percent, while SpiceJet's share dropped to 2 percent. Troubled SpiceJet saw its market decline by 64 per cent in September, while in January it had captured 5.6 per cent of the total 1.31 crore domestic air passengers flown by Indian airlines.

48,222 passengers affected due to flight cancellation

Meanwhile, IndiGo's on-time performance stood at 69.2 percent, followed by Vistara (69.1 percent) and Air India (68.1 percent). OTP of SpiceJet and Alliance Air in September stood at 30.4 percent and 53.8 percent respectively. On-time performance of scheduled domestic airlines is calculated for four metro airports – Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Additionally, flight cancellations in September affected 48,222 passengers and airlines spent Rs 88.14 lakh on compensation and facilities for them.
