There is a lot of horny fanart in the world, and some of it is so extreme that Dead or Alive publisher Koei Tecmo deletes thousands of posts a year.
In a new report from game clock (with translations provided by Automaton) based on the recent Tokyo eSports Festa 2025, Tomotoshi Nishimura, general manager of Koei Tecmo's legal affairs department, shed some light on how the company feels about fanart.
Nishimura says that Koei Tecmo has no problem with fans creating art based on the characters they love, and the company even supports those who profit from its fanart, as evidenced by sponsoring events like Comiket, where people sell fanart. .
However, the company has limits that it imposes. “Strict measures” are needed against between two and three thousand works of fanart each year. One of the reasons it will remove fanart is if it is based on art from video games that haven't been released yet. Another big reason is if the fanart includes characters that have been modified to suit “adult purposes” and could therefore damage their reputation.
Nishimura says that the developers at Koei Tecmo view the characters they create “as daughters,” which is a little worrying given How horny even the official art! of the cast of Dead or Alive it is.
At the same event, Nintendo's intellectual property director Koji Nishiura spoke about copyright law, saying: “It cannot be immediately stated that an emulator is illegal in itself., [but] can become illegal depending on how it is used.”
