Squid Game season 2 broke Wednesday's Netflix record and has now passed another milestone.
According to Variety, the new season reached 126.2 million views in 11 days, a higher number than any other Netflix show in the same time period. Considering that Season 1 reached 265.2 million views in 91 days, it looks like Season 2 is on track to surpass that in the next 80 days.
But, in the United States, the program has been displaced from first place by something unexpected: WWE Monday Night RAW. According to Flix Patrol, the wrestling program is ranked number 1 in the top 10 in the United States.
However, Squid Game season 2 is already one of Netflix's most popular shows, reaching second place on the all-time non-English language list. It's behind Squid Game Season 1, but that could change in the next 80 days.
In the second season of the hit show, Lee Jung-jae's Gi-hun returns to the deadly games, this time hoping to take them down from within. But he faces opposition from the sinister figurehead, played by Lee Byung-hun.
The show will end with the upcoming Squid Game season 3, which will likely release in June.
“Usually when I start writing a script, I do it by thinking about the ending first and then I try to make the journey or the path to get to that ending in the most entertaining way possible,” said creator Hwang Dong-hyuk. GamesRadar+ and other media outlets in a roundtable discussion about Squid Game Season 2.
“But this time, it was actually different. I started writing the story with a particular ending in mind, but along the way, I realized that wasn't where the story should be heading, so I changed the ending halfway through. “I think it was the first time I worked that way. I think this time the creative process was a little different.”
