This year was special for the telecom sector
- The government has implemented the new Telecommunication Act 2023 this year, abolishing the 140-year-old Telegraph and Wireless Act. In this new Telecommunication Act, rules have been made keeping in mind the current environment.
- India has become the fastest country in the world to roll out 5G. 5G coverage has reached 99 percent of the districts in the country. Telecom companies have completed the installation of 4.62 lakh 5G BTS towers this year.
- The government has approved the 4G Saturation Project to provide 4G connectivity to all the villages of the country.
- Submarine cable was laid through the sea between Kochi and Lakshadweep so that 5G and fiber broadband services could be provided.
- By June 2024, the number of internet users in India will increase to 96.96 crore.
- The price of 1GB mobile data in India is $0.16, which is much lower than the global average of $2.59.
- India has left the world far behind in terms of wireless data consumption. Here every user spends at least 21.30GB data in a month.
- This year 2.14 lakh gram panchayats have been connected to broadband service. For this, 6.9 lakh kilometers of optical fiber (OFC) has been laid.
- This year, the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) was organized for the first time in India.
- For the first time, India has joined the top-50 countries in the Network Readiness Index 2024.
- India reaches top Global Cyber Security Index in 2024.
- Apart from all this, Telecom Technology Development Funds focused on 5G and 6G projects.
