I recently learned that the popular saying “seeing is believing” is a misinterpretation of Thomas Fuller's original quote. The 17th century English clergyman *actually* said “Seeing is believing, but feeling is true” (thanks, Reddit scholars), and that slightly modified version pretty much sums up my feelings about the Huawei Mate XT.
Of course, I had read (and seen photos) about the world's first commercially available dual-screen, triple-folding smartphone before visiting Huawei's UK PR agency for a recent product launch. But it wasn't until I tested the Mate *, but do me a favor).
When the Mate That's still true, but now that I have the actual product in my actual hands, I can see why the Mate XT reportedly garnered over 3 million pre-orders in its home market.

For those who don't know, the Huawei Mate It was wrong to call it a “triple-foldable” device since only two of its screens fold, but I've since come around to the designation.) The USP here is obvious; you get three screens for the price (in terms of portability) of one.
The Mate XT measures 6.4 inches when folded and a whopping 10.2 inches when fully unfolded. For context, that makes it about 2.6 inches larger than the single-hinge Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and not far off the size of Apple's iPad 10.9 (2022) at its fullest.
When I first read about the Mate XT, I understood the benefits of its Z-shaped shape, but assumed it would feel flimsy and its two folds would be too distracting to ignore. In both cases, I was glad to be proven wrong.
This is a sturdy phone with hinges that can stay in place at any angle. It does not open or close and uses magnets to stay closed when desired. I wasn't able to stream any content on the Mate less noticeable than the current folding crop.” From a design point of view, this is a marvel.
I wasn't able to put the Mate XT's power credentials to the test, but it's an impressive beast in terms of specs. It is powered by a Huawei-exclusive Kirin 9010 chipset and 16GB of RAM, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB.
The phone's 5,600mAh battery is equally formidable (on paper) and supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging when paired with Huawei's SuperCharge charger.
On the camera front, the Mate Huawei's three-screen photography offering.
So what you get here is standard folding specs in a decidedly non-standard (and much more useful) design package. Foldable devices have long promised to deliver tablet-style utility in a much more convenient form factor, and while we're big fans of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, OnePlus Open, and more of the best foldable phones from Currently, these products still feel like awkward halfway points between phone and tablet, rather than genuine problem solutions.
The Huawei Mate . device.
In fact, Samsung is rumored to be developing its own triple-foldable phone, one that could launch in 2025, so we're hoping to get more hands-on time with a variety of triple-foldable devices in the coming months.
