Dhaka: The High Court in Bangladesh has refused to ban the activities of ISKCON. The court was requested to take suo motu and pass an order banning the activities of ISKCON in Bangladesh. Earlier on Wednesday, Supreme Court lawyer Moniruzzaman in Bangladesh had filed an application before the bench of Justice Farah Mehboob and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury demanding a ban on ISKCON. He had also appealed to declare emergency in Chittagong and Rangpur. 'The Daily Star' has given news about this.

What did the interim government say in the court?

At the beginning of the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Asaduddin, appearing for the Attorney General, informed the court about the steps taken by the government. He told the court that the government's stance on this incident is strict. So far three cases have come to light regarding this, in one case 13 people, in one 14 people and in the other 49 people have been made accused. So far 33 people have been arrested. 6 more people have been identified through CCTV. The government has said in the court that the police is active, further action will be taken on the basis of information after interrogating the accused.

'Satisfied with the government's action'

On the demand to ban ISKCON, the judges said that the government is working with top priority. We are satisfied with the government's action and have faith in the government's responsibility. During this, the court also commented, 'In our country, people of all religions are very cordial and friendly, mutual respect and love can never be lost, hence the applicant should not have any worries.'

Meanwhile, the thing to be seen here is that even though ISKCON has got immediate relief in Bangladesh, clouds of crisis are still looming over it. Activists of the radical Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh are continuously pressurizing the Yunus government to take action against ISKCON. During the court hearing, ISKCON has also been described as a fundamentalist organization. (Language)
