Ubisoft Responds to Assassin's Creed Shadows Leak by Showing Free Battle Pass Rewards

Ubisoft has responded to reports about its upcoming Animus Hub.

Yesterday, Eurogamer reported that leaked Assassin's Creed Shadows footage has surfaced showing a selection of free battle pass rewards for Ubisoft's upcoming blockbuster. Assassin's Creed has never offered a battle pass before and there were no official details on how it will work.

In a message posted on social media, Ubisoft called the rumors “inaccurate” and said it wanted to “clarify” the issues after learning that “inaccurate rumors have been circulating online about the upcoming Animus Hub (formerly codenamed Infinity )”.

The post adds “all rewards available in Animus Hub will be completely free, there are no paid subscriptions or paid battle passes in Animus Hub, and players will have access to regular content. [and] missions at no additional cost.”

The post ended by promising to “reveal more details on this closer to the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows.”

As our report yesterday hinted, there's nothing specified in the rumors that hasn't been done before in an Assassin's Creed game. But interestingly, nothing in Ubisoft's new statement contradicts our report from yesterday either.

At a BAFTA event attended by Eurogamer in London earlier this month, franchise boss Marc-Alexis Coté went into more detail about how the series will handle its modern narrative going forward, after admitting that it had been a “struggles” to stay consistent since the departure of the series' initial protagonist, Desmond.

For more from Coté, you can read Eurogamer's reporting on how the Assassin's Creed boss addressed the creative backlash to Assassin's Creed Shadows and Ubisoft's decision to delay Shadows and restore confidence in its ability to release quality games.
