Rural The average revenue of local bodies has been only Rs 59 per capita between 2017 and 2022. Along with this, Own Source Revenue (OSR) for Panchayats remains low. According to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the emphasis was on increasing the OSR between 2017 to 2022 to give more financial freedom to these rural bodies. However, according to data compiled by the ministry, between 2017 and 2022, panchayats collected only Rs 5,118.98 crore as OSR. This amount amounts to Rs 59 per person and Rs 2.27 lakh per panchayat over a period of five years for 2.25 lakh gram panchayats across the country.
Gujarat on top
Among the states, Gujarat deposited the highest amount as OSR at Rs 829.75 crore. Kerala stood second by depositing Rs 802.95 crore. Andhra Pradesh deposited Rs 791.93 crore, Karnataka Rs 627.56 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 516.3 crore and West Bengal Rs 435.17 crore. In terms of per capita OSR, Goa tops the list with Rs 1,635 followed by Puducherry (Rs 757).
