Perth. Just a week before the start of the BorderGavaskar Trophy Test series, KL Rahul has suffered a right elbow injury. He was forced to leave the field during India's intrasquad match simulation at the iconic WACA ground on Friday.
India started preparing for the match after a threeday net session at the WACA, where Rahul scored 29 but was hit on the right elbow by a bouncer from tall fast bowler Prasidh Krishna.
According to visuals, Rahul was feeling quite uncomfortable and had to leave the field after going to the team physio. The 32yearold Rahul is in line to open the batting for India along with Yashasvi Jaiswal at the Perth Stadium if captain Rohit Sharma remains out due to personal reasons.
Till now, no information has been given by the Indian team about Rahul's right elbow injury. Virat Kohli, who was reported by the Sydney Morning Herald to be undergoing scans for an undisclosed injury in Perth. Before getting out, he had hit some brilliant cover drives.
Kohli last scored a Test century against West Indies in Port of Spain in July 2023, but managed just one halfcentury and averaged just 21.33 in India's five home Test matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Kohli's record in Australia is excellent. Here he has scored 1352 runs in 13 matches at an average of 54.08, which includes six centuries and four halfcenturies. In the updates coming from the intrasquad practice match, Kohli, Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel were caught behind while Rishabh Pant was caught behind by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
The 202425 BorderGavaskar Trophy will see India and Australia play Test matches in Perth, Adelaide (pinkball matches), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney from November 22 to January 7, 2025.
India have won the marquee series over Australia by a 21 margin in 201819 and 202021 respectively. This will also be the first fivematch Test series between India and Australia since 199192.
