The Rogue Prince of Persia is getting a huge new update, Second Act, next week on November 21, which looks like it will act as a full re-release of sorts.
This roguelite take on Ubisoft's historical action series from some of the developers behind Dead Cells hit early access in May of this year to a warm reception.
Now, developer Evil Empire is adding the game's biggest update yet, which will revamp the game's visuals and double its size. You can see the changes in the new Act Two trailer below:
Writing on Steam, Evil Empire describes the update as a “brightening” for the game, with additional details and modified color palettes. Most notably, the Prince is no longer purple.
“This change was made because the purple hue simply didn't fit the new direction,” Evil Empire wrote. “We found that the art direction now fits much better with the genre, setting/story of the game, and the Prince of Persia series as a whole.” Which is fair, since the Prince isn't purple anywhere else.
Other content added in the Second Act update includes more biomes, bosses, a new story, and additional quality of life improvements such as multiple save slots.
“I think it works because the game has a charismatic star,” Chris Donlan wrote about The Rogue Prince of Persia in its early access release. “He's not charismatic in what he says, maybe, but he is charismatic in what he does and how he moves. I love watching him run.”
