Chandigarh. Dev Raj Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament started at Gurukul Global School, Chandigarh. It is played in the memory of the father of School President Mrs. Neena Setia. Its purpose is to give the youth an opportunity to play and the host team has started the tournament with a win on the first day.
16 teams are participating in this and the competitions will continue for three days. Joint Secretary of Punjab Government Tejdeep Singh Saini inaugurated the tournament. On this occasion, Chandigarh Basketball Association President Anil Mehta, Chandigarh Olympic Association Secretary NS Thakur along with School President Neena Setia, MD Parveen Setia and Devraj Satyaji were present.
On the first day, host Gurukul Global School registered a big victory in the boys category. They defeated Guru Harkrishna Hanumangarh 4728. Rupinder scored the maximum 16 points for the winning team. The host team was behind in the first quarter, but in the remaining 3 quarters Gurukul Global players dominated. Whereas, St. John's High School defeated Learning Paths School Mohali by 4239 in a close match. Aaron scored 22 points for the team. In two other matches, SD School32 defeated Tender Heart School by 4227 and New Public School defeated Shamrock School Kaithal by 5440.
Sawpins School got the first win in the girls category. They defeated Saraswati School Ganganagar 406. Vishakha scored 20 points for the winning team. In the second match, Sacred Heart School defeated Government School Nandgarh 5026. Tanmaya contributed to the victory by scoring 24 points. In the third match, New Public School defeated Gurukul Global School by 2906 and Learning Paths School defeated Tribune Model School by 3011.
