Taking an important decision, the Odisha government has removed State Commission for Women (SCW) Chairperson Minati Behera. According to the information, during the tenure of Minati Behera, his performance was unsatisfactory. Although the state government had long ago issued instructions to remove Behera from the post, he did not leave the chair. After this the government issued him a show cause notice and asked him to reply by November 1. After which the government termed their reply as “inadequate” and said that it does not justify the unsatisfactory performance of the Commission. “After a thorough and careful examination of the show cause reply submitted by the Chairman, OSCW, it has been found that the reply is inadequate and does not justify the unsatisfactory performance of the Commission,” the government said in an official notification.
The government will appoint a new chairperson shortly
This issue has given rise to a new controversy, with some people even debating whether this step taken by the government is justified. It is anticipated that in the next few weeks, the Government of Odisha will appoint another Chairperson to lead the State Women Commission and ensure effective and timely redressal of women related issues across the state.
Was appointed in BJD government
Behera was appointed president of Odisha SCW by the previous Naveen Patnaik-led previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government in 2019. Before her appointment as Odisha SCW president, Behera was the BJD women's wing chief. She also served as the Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Persons with Disabilities from 2015 to 2018.
