A new Star Wars trilogy is on the way, but there are conflicting reports about whether it will be a continuation of the Skywalker saga.
By DeadlineThe films will be episodes 10 through 12, but Lucasfilm insiders have apparently questioned whether the new films will continue the story of the original, prequel and sequel trilogies.
What is confirmed, however, is that Simon Kinberg is on board to develop the trilogy. He will write all three films and produce them with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy.
Kinberg made his directorial debut with the 2019 X-Men spinoff Dark Phoenix after writing numerous other films in the franchise, including The Last Stand, First Class, and Days of Future Past (the latter of which also produced).
His resume also includes experience in a galaxy far, far away: He's also co-creator of the animated series Star Wars Rebels, which ran for four seasons from 2014 to 2018, and is credited as a creative consultant on The Force Awakens and Rogue One.
Nothing else is known yet about the new films, including plot or character details. If they are part of the Skywalker saga, it will be interesting to see what that means for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rey movie currently in the works, which will see Daisy Ridley return to the Star Wars franchise as her character attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order.
