Pant and Mitchell in top 10 in ICC rankings after Mumbai Test


Dubai . Indian wicketkeeperbatsman Rishabh Pant and veteran New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell were rewarded for their strong performances during the third Test in Mumbai as both players moved into the top 10 of the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday.

Pant has moved up five places to reach sixth place in the Test batting rankings after scoring a brilliant halfcentury during the Test. This surge has taken him closer to his careerbest ranking of fifth, which he last achieved in July 2022.

Mitchell has also seen a huge jump after scoring 82 runs in the first innings in Mumbai, moving up eight places to seventh overall. He now joins his fellow New Zealander Kane Williamson, who is ranked second.

England's Joe Root maintains a comfortable lead at the top of the list for Test batsmen, followed by Williamson, Harry Brook (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth) and Steve Smith (fifth). India's Shubhman Gill has also moved up four places to 16th position after scoring 90 runs in the first innings against New Zealand.

Player of the Series Will Young, who played an important role in New Zealand's success, has moved up 29 places to 44th position. In the bowling department, India's leftarm spinner Ravindra Jadeja has moved up two places to sixth position after taking an impressive 10 wickets against New Zealand. His teammate Washington Sundar has also moved up seven places to reach 46th position in the list of Test bowlers.

New Zealand's spin attack has also benefited in a similar manner. Ejaz Patel has moved up 12 places to 22nd position, while Ish Sodhi has moved up three places to 70th. Meanwhile, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has moved up four places to 19th position, thanks to his impressive 13wicket haul against Bangladesh in the recent South Africa series.

There has also been a lot of change in the latest ODI rankings. West Indies captain Shai Hope has moved up five places to 12th in the list of ODI batsmen after scoring his 17th ODI century in the second match against England. England's Liam Livingstone has also made a significant improvement by climbing 32 places to reach 58th position after scoring a century in the same match.

Fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Mitchell Starc have gained momentum in the rankings of ODI bowlers. He has moved up three places to fourth place, while Starc has moved up four places to 14th after his debut performance in Australia's ODI series against Pakistan. Scotland's Brendon McMullen also improved in the ODI allrounder category, moving up three places to sixth.
