Stardew Valley on mobile now includes a secret experimental multiplayer mode unlocked with the Konami code

Not content with pulling load of documented new features in Stardew Valley on mobile devices With this week's long-awaited 1.6 update, it turns out that developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone also introduced a pretty major one without warning; There's now a secret experimental multiplayer mode available for mobile gamers, if they're feeling brave enough.

Eagle-eyed players should notice four leaves adorning the Stardew Valley title screen logo once the 1.6 update is installed: the top right one points up, the bottom left one points down, the the top left points to the left and the bottom right points to the right. With that in mind, players must enter the following code by tapping the corresponding sheets: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right. After that, it's simply a matter of tapping the question mark at the bottom of the screen to reveal the co-op session button hidden from the main menu.

From there, players can choose to join or host a new multiplayer game, but hosts will first need to set up a farm, while those joining will need the host's IP address, as detailed in Barone's instructions. Additionally, all participants must be on the same network or connect to a player who is port forwarding their game. So it's not the easiest solution, but it has the advantage that mobile players can also join a game hosted on a PC over IP.

Stardew Valley's massive 1.6 update finally arrived on mobile and consoles earlier this week after launching on PC in March. It adds, among other things, the ability to consume mayonnaise, a new type of farm, new festivals, new crafting items, new dialogues and, perhaps most importantly, hats for dogs and cats. It also includes everything included in the recent Barone patch 1.6.9 for PC. I mean, it's not too surprising to hear that Barone hasn't done any additional work on his next game, Haunted Chocolatier, “in a long time.”
