Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be the first game in the series without any post-launch DLC plans, as developer BioWare moves toward the upcoming Mass Effect 5.
Speaking to Agency, Dragon Age: The Veilguard creative director John Epler reiterated that the new fantasy RPG would not follow in the footsteps of its predecessors, as the studio has no current plans for future additions. Dragon Age has had several fan-favorite expansions over the years, but the sudden change is supposedly the result of BioWare's “undivided attention” being completely focused on the upcoming Mass Effect game currently in development.
BioWare will likely continue to give Dragon Age: The Veilguard some quality-of-life patches or updates, although a larger expansion on par with its previous efforts appears to be in the rearview mirror. However, it might come as a surprise to longtime fans, since Dragon Age: Origins' Awakening expansion and Inquisition's Trespasser epilogue are so beloved. And that DLC-heavy story even extended to Mass Effect as well, with Lair of the Shadow Broker and Citadel as highlights.
However, focusing on Mass Effect 5 isn't the only reason for Veilguard's lack of expansions. Game director Corrine Busche previously explained that Dragon Age: The Veilguard wouldn't receive DLC because the game was designed as a complete experience, and while she also loves expansions like Trespasser, she admitted that something this big probably should have been part of the main game itself. I haven't completed The Veilguard either, but I suppose it would be a little difficult to move from the conclusion to a saga that has been 10 years in the making.
