What's up with the coven?
Agatha, Billy and Jen left for the final trial. But along the way, Agatha is stopped by Rio/Death, who says that Billy is an abomination because he stole a second life from her. However, because if she simply tried to kill him, he could be resurrected again, he must go with her willingly.
Agatha agrees to hand over Billy at the end of the Witch's Path in exchange for Rio leaving her alone for the rest of her life, and not even confronting her when her time to die finally comes. Rio agrees, making his way through reality itself as he leaves.
The trio reaches the end of the path, only to discover that they have returned to the beginning where they left their shoes. Putting them on, they wake up in body bags inside an austere morgue room illuminated by slowly dimming ultraviolet lights.
After a confrontation, Jen learns that Agatha is the one who cast the spell that bound her. Using a liberating spell, she regains her magic and is immediately transported off the road with her heart's desire granted.
As the lights dim, Agatha helps Billy use his powers to resurrect Tommy by placing his spirit into the body of a dying boy, although she still doesn't know where to find him. This leads to Billy also disappearing from the road.
This leaves Agatha to pass the test alone, which she does by planting a single dandelion seed and watering it with tears, causing it to magically sprout just as the test is about to end. She escapes back to Westview, but things aren't over yet, as Death is still waiting for them.
Who dies in Agatha All Along episodes 8 and 9?
As Agatha escapes the trial, she confronts Death, who says that Agatha's time has finally come, attacking and wounding her. But as Agatha prepares to meet her end, Billy reappears in full Wiccan mode, complete with a fairly faithful adaptation of his comic book costume. He lends Agatha some of his powers, and she fails to take enough to kill him.
They fight fruitlessly with Rio, who offers them a deal: only one of them has to die and they can choose who. Agatha says it should be her, but before she can speak, Billy selflessly says he'll go. Agatha surprisingly agrees and begins to leave Billy to his fate.
However, Billy telepathically asks Agatha if this is how her son Nicholas Scratch died, causing her to turn around, walk towards Rio and kiss her, causing Agatha to quickly die in a cloud of black energy. His body decomposes in an instant, sprouting into a bed of flowers. Death allows Billy to leave.
Back in Billy's room, he reacclimates after everything he's been through. But as you settle into your surroundings, you realize that all the elements of the Witch's Path and its evidence can be found in your belongings, right down to the posters on your walls and the collectibles on your shelves.
Realizing that it was his own influence that truly created the Witch's Path and therefore its magic that led to the deaths of Mrs. Davis, Alice and Lilia, he is overcome with guilt.
However, before any of that can sink in, Billy is shocked by the sound of Agatha's voice in his room, setting up the start of episode 9, which reveals even more shocking truths about the Witch's Way and why. that Agatha seemed to know everything. Furthermore, Billy's magic was behind what they experienced.
What happened to Nicholas Scratch?
Agatha All Along Episode 9 reveals the truth about Nicholas Scratch and begins with Agatha Harkness giving birth in the 18th century. As she struggles during childbirth, Death arrives to take the baby. Agatha begs for her son's life, tells Death that she will hate her forever if she takes the baby, and pleads with him based on their apparent relationship. But the only thing Death can offer is time: he will return for the child at an unspecified time.
Accepting this fate, Agatha uses Nicholas Scratch, so named because she says he was “made from scratch,” as bait to attract witches and kill them, first when he was a baby and until he is six years old. As Nicky grows up, he and Agatha write The Ballad of the Witch's Road together, and Nicky performs it for money as they go from town to town. Over time it becomes a popular song among witches.
When Nicky is six years old, Death comes looking for him at night, and Agatha wakes up to find him dead. Filled with grief, she is surprised when a young witch approaches her to ask if she knows the way to the Witches' Trail, which is now believed to be a true destination for witches thanks to folk song. Agatha agrees to take her there, gathering a coven like in episode 2 of Agatha All Along.
But when they perform the ritual, nothing happens, leading Agatha to rebuke the coven as a trick to get them to use their powers on her, allowing her to absorb them and leave them dead, just as she tried to do with her modern coven in episode 2 before. that Billy unknowingly used his power to create the path based on his own imagination of what it could be like. She repeats this again and again throughout the story, as the story of the road (and what happened to Nicholas Scratch) becomes legend in its own right.
What's next for Agatha and Wiccan?
This brings us back to the present day, where Billy discovers that Agatha is now a ghost who has manifested in his room. He confronts her about the Witch's Way and she reveals how she saw through her powers, the same way she saw through Wanda Maximoff's illusions.
Billy regrets being responsible for the deaths of Mrs. Davis, Lilia, and Alice, but Agatha reminds him that Lilia gave her own life and Alice died because of Agatha. And she tells him that she finally saved a life by allowing Jen to get her powers back.
Still, Billy heads to Agatha's house, where the portal to the Witch's Path still exists in the basement. After he attempts to banish Agatha, she manages to grab her locket with Nicky's hair, binding her to the plane of the living.
She and Billy have a heart-to-heart talk and decide that they will continue with Agatha as their ghostly mentor. Billy closes the Witches' Trail, leaving a monument to his fallen coven, and he and Agatha set out on a new journey to find Tommy, his resurrected twin, presumably wherever their story continues next, perhaps in the upcoming streaming series.
