Gas leaks in Chennai school, 30 students fall ill; Admitted to hospital – Top News Bulletin


Chennai: A case of gas leak has come to light in a school in the city. After the gas leak incident, many students had to be admitted to the hospital. During this time, along with the children, some teachers also faced difficulties in breathing. The incident is said to be of Matriculation Higher Secondary School located in Tiruvottiyur. More than 30 students here allegedly started feeling uneasiness and throat irritation due to gas leak. After this he was admitted to the hospital. At present, officials say that all the affected students are safe and are being treated.

Panic created after difficulty in breathing

NDRF Commander AK Chauhan said, 'At present, we are not yet able to know the exact reason. Our team came and assessed the situation, everything was normal and we did not smell any gas or leakage from the AC.” Another student said, “Some of us had to step out of the class to get fresh air. Even our teachers experienced difficulty in breathing. Some students even fainted and our teachers brought them back to their senses.”

Students admitted to hospital

It is being told that as soon as the students complained of uneasiness, the school management informed the ambulance. After this the students were taken to the hospital. Police said it was not clear whether the leak originated from the school or its surrounding area, where a chemical factory was located. The family members of the students also reached the spot. Parents of the affected children accused the school authorities of not providing clear information about the situation. A parent said, “The school administration is not giving clear information. My child is still under hospital observation. He had a burning sensation in his throat for the last three days, which we thought was minor, but today they admitted him.”
