Bengaluru. Indian batsman Virat Kohli has completed 9,000 Test runs in the first match against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He achieved this feat during India's second innings.
Virat Kohli became the fourth Indian batsman to achieve this feat after Sachin Tendulkar (15,921), Rahul Dravid (13,265) and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122). However, among these, Kohli (197) was the slowest batsman to reach this milestone in terms of innings.
The 35yearold batsman, who had not yet scored a Test halfcentury in the year 2024, now scored his 31st Test halfcentury against New Zealand.
Virat Kohli is the second highest Test run scorer among active players after England's Joe Root (12,716 runs). He is ranked 18th in the overall list.
Glenn Phillips eventually ended Kohli's innings on 70, which included eight fours and a six.
India's score at stumps on the third day was 2313. Sarfaraz Khan remains unbeaten on 70 and India trail by 125 runs after being bowled out for 46 in the first innings, their lowest score at home.
After the fall of the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (35) and Indian captain Rohit Sharma (52), Kohli and Sarfaraz took over the innings by making a partnership of 136 runs for the third wicket.
