The head of the world's largest PC maker has laid out his goals for a powerful and intelligent AI future.
In his keynote speech at the Lenovo Tech World 2024 event in Bellevue, the company's president and CEO Yuanqing Yang noted how “we use the power of AI to preserve the most precious experiences.”
“It's about using AI to build a smarter future, together, for everyone,” he added, “Lenovo believes that AI is real, it's not a fleeting trend, it's not an inflated bubble.”
Hybrid AI
In a wide-ranging keynote speech that featured the likes of AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Yang described how AI is already It is improving people's quality of life, providing greater productivity for companies and protecting a more sustainable planet.
“This is a moment when astonishing productivity gains are on the horizon,” he said, “a moment of a fundamental paradigm shift in our industry and a moment to reimagine the future of AI, so that it works not only in the cloud, but also in the cloud. within our reach and within our own organizations.”
Yang said the company still believes the future lies in a “hybrid AI” future, an idea that Lenovo first proposed a year ago, but which he says is still relevant today.
This vision sees enterprise foundation and private cloud models co-existing with a public foundation and public cloud model, all complementing each other to deliver “improved results for different customer needs,” Yang stated.
Lenovo was also interested in boosting the AI PC industry, which will explode in the coming years, and Yang said the company is “just the beginning of our journey.”
“Our core concept is a personal AI, multiple devices,” he said, “to deliver a secure, seamless user experience across devices and ecosystems.”
Overall, Yang struck a surprisingly positive note about the future of AI, with Lenovo showing use cases ranging from creating a digital twin of an ancient wooden pagoda for mixed reality experiences, to creating digital avatars for who suffer from ALS to give them a voice.
“Lenovo is optimistic about the new opportunities that AI will generate,” he stated.
“We are on the brink of a new era, defined by AI, and we have the opportunity to address some of the world's biggest challenges… Imagine a world where technology and humanity thrive together; this is not just a dream, but that is within our reach, if we choose to act, with a vision of smarter AI for all.”
