At this year's Adobe Max event, the company has greatly expanded its AI offering, with a bunch of new tools coming to Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, all powered by Firefly.
The main tools coming to our current pick for the best photo editor include an updated Remove tool, a space for design ideation, and a range of genAI tools now available to everyone.
And, since this is Adobe Max-mas, the company has also announced some extras for Illustrator and InDesign.
What's new in Adobe Photoshop?
Photoshop was already no slouch in the AI department, packed with tools that streamline editing workflows, so we were intrigued to see the latest versions for Adobe users.
First, a number of essential AI tools will be generally available to Photoshop web and desktop users. So look for Generative Fill, Generative Zoom, Generate Similar, Generate Background, and Generate Image powered by Firefly Image 3 Model.
The Remove tool also gets a major update, now featuring what Adobe called “distraction removal technology.” Effectively, this will allow users to remove unwanted elements from an image with a single click.
The company has also announced a new generative workspace within Photoshop. This allows designers to test new ideas (or adapt existing ones) in a sandbox, where builds run in the background without interrupting the workflow. The space also includes generation history, to quickly see previous instructions and images.
One of the most interesting developments in Photoshop is the Adobe Substance 3D Viewer application. Now in beta, this tool combines 2D and 3D image design, so users can import models created in Adobe Substance 3D directly into Photoshop.
There are also more AI tools on the way for Illustrator, including new path objects and generative fill, and InDesign, which now features generative stretching, text-to-image, and integration with Adobe Express.
