- 1937: Ratan Tata was born to Sunu and Naval Tata.
- 1955: Went to Cornell University (Ithaca, New York, USA) at age 17; Studied architecture and engineering over a period of seven years.
- 1962: Earned a bachelor's degree in Architecture.
- 1962: Joined the Tata Group as an assistant in Tata Industries; Later he underwent six months training at the Jamshedpur plant of Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (now known as Tata Motors).
