Washington: America has said that it wants minority communities in Bangladesh to be protected. Hindus coming from minority community in the country are celebrating their biggest festival Durga Puja. This statement of America has come in the wake of increasing attacks on the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh after the resignation of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her departure to India in August. “Certainly, we want to see the rights of minorities in Bangladesh protected,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at his daily press conference. A question was asked about the threats being given during the meeting, in response to which he said these things.

India has urged the interim government of Bangladesh to ensure peaceful religious events for the Hindu community in the South Asian country. According to a UN report, more than 600 people, including Hindus, have been killed during violent protests in Bangladesh.
