Iconic Metal Gear Solid actor David Hayter is teasing his return as Big Boss and naturally, fans are spiraling.
“I was at the booth today. Playing a role I haven't played since…”, reads a tweet from Hayter, which was followed by a gif of Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta: Snake Eater, a new version of Metal Gear. Solid 3.
To be fair to said fans, there is justified confusion about what Hayter seems to be stirring up here. We have Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater coming out sometime this year (the exact date has yet to be announced), but Konami said in May 2023 that it was using the same recorded voice lines from the original game. Sure, he later said that a few select lines were being re-recorded, but it seems unlikely that they'll do it this late in the game, with less than three months left in the year.

Then there's Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, but it seems even less likely to have re-recorded lines from Hayter, as it's a simpler port.
Finally, the most dubious speculation is that Hayter is teasing a new entry in the Metal Gear franchise. Konami hasn't said anything about a potential Metal Gear Solid 6, but when has that stopped fans from speculating? And to that end, enjoy this sequence of Normal reactions to Hayter's tweet from fans:
That settles it, Metal Gear Solid 6 confirms it 100%. Thanks, David October 4, 2024

Konami knows that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection had a “pretty rocky launch” and is doing everything it can to “not repeat it” in vol. 2.
