School van driver sexually harassed two girls in Pune, accused arrested

Pune (Maharashtra). A school van driver allegedly sexually assaulted two sixyearold girls of a reputed primary school in Maharashtra's Pune city. The police have arrested the accused. Political uproar has also started on this issue.

The accused has been identified as Sanjay J. Reddy (45). It is alleged that Sanjay was allegedly misbehaving with two minor girls while taking them to school for the last four days.

Soon after receiving the complaint, the police of Wanwadi police station arrested Sanjay J, a resident of Hadapsar on the outskirts of the city. Reddy was arrested. A case has been registered against him under POCSO Act and other laws.

On getting information about the incident, angry local people and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers surrounded the van of the private school. They broke the van's windows, windscreen and damaged the vehicle.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in Nagpur that according to initial police investigation, some local politicians had helped the suspect escape, but he has been caught by the police.

Fadnavis said in a stern tone, “We are not worried about it, the accused is an accused. Strict action will be taken against him and also against those who helped him escape.”

Fadnavis said that the driver had touched a girl inappropriately. After her parents lodged a complaint, it was revealed that the driver had also behaved inappropriately with another girl.

Accused Reddy used to make both the little girls sit next to him and used to do obscene acts with them while driving.

Maharashtra State Women Commission chairperson Rupali Chakankar said she spoke to senior police inspector Sanjay Patange of Wanwadi police station on the issue and demanded strict action.

Rupali said, “The girls have been sent for medical examination and to the Child Welfare Committee. The accused has been caught. MSCW has directed Pune Police to thoroughly investigate the matter and take action against the accused. “
