Gujarat: Accused of stone pelting on Ganesh pandal in Surat presented in court

Apart from the six minors who pelted stones at the Ganesh pandal and Syedpura police post, 28 stone pelters have been arrested by Gujarat Police. They have been produced in the court. The minors who pelted stones at the Ganesh pandal have been produced in the juvenile court and sent to the child reform home.

Giving information about the six minors who pelted stones, Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said that all the accused children are local and they all live in the area around the Ganesh pandal.

He said that the minor children who pelted stones were between 12 and 15 years of age and did not go to school. They threw plastic pouches at the pandal on September 6, tried again on September 7 and on the night of September 8, the minor accused brought stones at the idol of Lord Ganesha who had come to the pandal in a rickshaw, during which the locals caught them.

The police is investigating who brainwashed the children. The parents are being questioned. The nearby madrasa has also been put under investigation. It is suspected that the 12yearold child was brainwashed first and through him the other children might have been instigated to do the same.

There was a huge crowd present at the spot during the stone pelting. Fearing a riot, Gujarat police took the front with full alertness and the entire area was converted into a cantonment.

Earlier on September 9, Gujarat government minister Harsh Singhvi had said through the social media platform X that “stone pelters have been caught, monitoring is being done through CCTV, video visuals, drone visuals and other technical means. Strict action will be taken against all the accused. Work is being done to identify the stone pelters and punish them.”
