Brook's first ODI century helps England halt Australia's winning streak

ChesterleStreet (England): Harry Brooke (110 not out off 94 balls) hit his maiden ODI century as England ended Australia's 14match winning streak in the format with a 46run win via the DLS method in the third ODI at ChesterleStreet.

England were on course for victory at 2544, needing 51 runs from 74 balls, before rain halted play at ChesterleStreet. The result also ended England's sevenmatch losing streak against their rivals in this format.

Australia set a target of 305 runs for England thanks to the unbeaten 77 runs from Alex Carey and halfcenturies from Steve Smith (60 off 82 balls) and brilliant knocks from Cameron Green (42 off 49 balls) and Aaron Hardy (44 off 26 balls).

In response, England looked on the backfoot as they lost the first two openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett to Mitchell Starc, according to ICC's report. But a 156run partnership between Brook and Will Jacks (84) turned the tide for the hosts.

Brook was then joined by Liam Livingstone, who made an unbeaten 33 off 20 balls to help the hosts go past the DLS par score, due to rain.

Australia had a chance to extend their ODI winning streak to 15, which would have been two matches ahead of the secondbest winning streak in the men's format, which began at last year's flagship tournament.

Australia holds the record, winning 21 consecutive matches in 2003, which included winning the Cricket World Cup that same year.

A win would also have meant that Australia would have replaced India as the top spot in the ICC ODI Men's Team Rankings, however a loss means they remain three rating points behind the top spot (118 rating points).

England will look to level the fivematch series 22 in the fourth ODI at Lord's on Friday.

Brief scores: Australia 3047 in 50 overs (Alex Carey 77 not out, Steve Smith 60, Aaron Hardie 44, Cameron Green 42; Jofra Archer 267) lost to England 2544 in 37.4 overs (Harry Brook 110 not out, Will Jacks 84; Cameron Green 245, Mitchell Starc 263) by 46 runs (DLS method).
