Agreement between IIT Roorkee and Concor Research, will strengthen the logistics sector

New Delhi: To promote research and innovation in the logistics sector, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and Container Corporation of India (Concor) on Saturday said they have signed an agreement to enhance research.

The collaboration aims to promote research, innovation and capacity building by developing stateoftheart optimisation models to enhance the efficiency of containerised freight movement across the railway network, with a particular focus on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).

IIT Roorkee will apply its academic and research capability to conduct indepth operational research studies to optimize the loading of twentyfoot equivalent units (TEUs) on doublestack trains. This will ultimately reduce container rail freight costs and improve interterminal movement.

Professor Kamal Kishore Pant said, “Through multiple research initiatives and strategic partnerships, we aim to optimize logistics infrastructure across India, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and make India a leading country in the world.”

This collaboration will also include developing a system for efficient movement of container trains across CONCOR's network.

Sanjay Swarup, Chairman and Managing Director, CONCOR, said, “We look forward to impressive results from this partnership, which will not only benefit our operations but also contribute to the advancement of India’s logistics sector.”

IIT Roorkee said that this agreement will be effective for five years.
