'We have to keep Pant quiet': Pat Cummins

New Delhi: Australia captain Pat Cummins is concerned about India's star wicketkeeperbatsman Rishabh Pant's ability to handle the game and said his side needs to keep the 26yearold batsman quiet in the upcoming BorderGavaskar Trophy.

The upcoming fivematch Test series between India and Australia will begin on November 22. In this series, India and Australia will play in Perth, Adelaide (pink ball match), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney from November 22 to January 7, 2025.

India have been able to retain the title in the last four consecutive BorderGavaskar Trophies, including their famous series wins in 201819 and 202021 where Pant hit a brilliant unbeaten 89 at the Gabba to seal a stunning win over Australia, ending their 32year unbeaten streak at their fortress.

After a long wait of 637 days due to a fatal car accident in December 2022, Pant made a stunning comeback to Test cricket against Bangladesh, scoring 109 in the second innings to help India secure a 280run win in Chennai.

“Look, I think every team has one or two players who can take the game forward. You know, we have players like Travis Head and Mitch Marsh. I think with these players, you know they are going to be aggressive. If you miss a little bit in your area, they will take over the game. Someone like Rishabh, he can play the reverse lap and it is an incredible shot and it is part of his personality,” Cummins said on Star Sports.

“I think we're a bit more used to it these days when some of the ridiculous shots have become a bit more common. He's a player who has had a big impact on a couple of series and we've got to try and keep him quiet,” he said.

India won the BorderGavaskar Trophy the last two times it was played in Australia, in 201819 and 202021. Also, Australia have not won a BorderGavaskar Trophy series since 201415, when they won 20 on home soil.
