Indian men's hockey team to host Germany in October


New Delhi: The Indian men's hockey team will host Germany for a twomatch bilateral hockey series in Delhi in October.

The Indian hockey team is brimming with confidence as they recently won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics for the second consecutive time and retained the Asian Champions Trophy title.

Led by skipper Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian team won the Asian Champions Trophy for the fifth time after defeating hosts China 10 in the final at the Moqi Hockey Training Base last week.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said, “This bilateral series against Germany will be a spectacular and memorable display of worldclass hockey. Both India and Germany have a rich history in the sport, and this series will give fans a chance to enjoy a thrilling contest between two of the strongest teams in the world. We are proud to host this event, which will not only promote the spirit of hockey but also strengthen the ties between the two countries.”

The last time India faced Germany was in the semifinals of the Paris Olympics, where the European giants emerged victorious 32.

Henning Fastrich, President of the German Hockey Federation, said, “India has always had a special place for hockey, and our team is very excited to play in front of Indian hockey fans. This series will be a great opportunity to strengthen sporting ties between Germany and India, as well as provide both teams with a competitive platform to prepare for upcoming global events. We look forward to the challenge and experience of playing at the historic Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.”
