New Delhi: The first contingent of 60 Indians, including 40 shooters, 14 coaches and five support staff, is set to leave for Lima, the capital of Peru, to participate in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championship Rifle to be held from September 26 to October 7.

In the Junior World Championship held in Changwon, Korea last year, India had won 17 medals including six gold and finished second in the medal tally after China.

A 35member Indian team has already been announced for the championship. The team includes many established names from Indian shooting as well as the international junior circuit, including players like Abhinav Shaw, Gautami Bhanot, Parth Rakesh Mane, Shambhavi, Vibhuti Bhatia, Shardul Vihan, Sabira Haris, Bhavya Tripathi, Harmehar Singh Lali and Bhavtegh Singh Gill.

Mukesh Nelavalli will be the only shooter to compete in two events, men's 10m air pistol and men's 25m rapid fire pistol respectively, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Monday said.

The second batch comprising 20 shooters and two coaches will leave a week later as their matches are scheduled in the second half of the championship.
