The police team of Surauth police station of Karauli district has arrested a cunning crook Ram Prasad Bargi son of Pannya (45) Pannya ka Pura police station Surauth who used to cheat people by telling them that he has a miraculous tortoise and will make them millionaires overnight. The arrested accused and his brothers had cheated a woman of the police station area of ₹ 4 lakhs about 16 months ago by making a similar deception.
SP Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay said that in connection with the incident, on May 4, 2023, Sunita Jatav, a resident of Dhursi Colony, reported at the Surauth police station that on April 23, Doji Vargi came to her house and told her about a miraculous tortoise that makes one a millionaire overnight. The accused told the price of the tortoise to be 4 lakhs and made her talk on a mobile number. The person talking said that if you bring them the miraculous tortoise, the company will give you one crore rupees.
Next day Doji and his brothers Ramesh and Ram Prasad Vargi came to his house. They had a yellow coloured tortoise. They said that they had bought this tortoise for four lakh rupees and made him talk to a person from a mobile number. The person said that he would sell the miraculous tortoise for Rs. 4 lakh. Falling into the trap, he gave Rs. 1 lakh kept at home and brought the rest from his relatives and gave it to them. After taking the money, the accused neither gave the tortoise nor are returning the money. On May 3, when he spoke to the three brothers, they became adamant on killing him. On the report, a case was registered and investigation was started.
SP Upadhyay said that under the direction of SHO Mahesh Kumar, ASI Ramnivas and his team took action and arrested the wanted accused Ram Prasad Vargi from the jungles of Areni after interrogation. The accused is a vicious criminal who has committed major crimes. He has been produced in the court and taken on police remand.
