Mumbai: Filmmaker Kiran Rao's comedy drama “Missing Ladies” has been selected as India's official entry for the Oscars 2025 by the Film Federation of India.
The Oscars are scheduled to be held in March 2025. The film was competing with 29 films, including “Animal”, “Kill”, “Kalki 2898 A.D.”, “Srikant”, “Chandu Champion”, “Joram”, “Maidaan”, “Sam Bahadur”, “Article 370”, Malayalam film “Aattam” and Payal Kapadia's “All We Imagine As Light”.
Headed by Assamese director Jahnu Barua, a 13member selection jury decided on “Missing Ladies”. The film stars Nitanshi Goyal, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan.
“Missing Ladies” is produced by Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande.
“Missing Ladies” is set to release in Japan on Oct 4 and the filmmaker said she is a fan of Japanese cinema.
Kiran said, “I am thrilled that 'Missing Ladies' is releasing in Japan. I am a huge fan of Japanese cinema. I hope that Japanese audiences will connect with the film as emotionally as we did.”
“Laapata Ladies” was released in March 2024. The film attracted audiences for more than 100 days in theaters. After this, it also got a lot of love from the audience on OTT.
This film is based on the story of two brides. It is a sliceoflife comedy. In this story, two brides travelling in the same train get interchanged. One goes with another groom to his house, while the other stays at the railway station and waits for her husband.
The film is produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, based on an awardwinning story by Biplab Goswami. The story and dialogues are written by Sneha Desai, while additional dialogues are written by Divyanidhi Sharma.
