Sangram Singh became the first Indian male wrestler to win an MMA match

Georgia. Indian wrestler Sangram Singh made his mark in the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) world by winning his first match at the Gamma International Fighting Championship.

Commonwealth Games heavyweight wrestling champion Sangram defeated Pakistani wrestler Ali Raza Nasir, who is 17 years younger than him, in just one minute and 30 seconds. Thus, he became the first Indian male wrestler to win a mixed martial arts match.

Sangram's achievement is the fastest victory recorded by an Indian in the 93kg category among 11 competing countries. He pulled off a onesided victory by showcasing his wrestling skills and strategic understanding. He hails from a traditional wrestling background and is keen on training.

After winning the match, Sangram Singh said, “I am very proud to have achieved this victory while representing the country. This victory is a big step towards a better future for MMA in India. This is more than a personal achievement. I hope this global recognition will inspire the Indian government to implement programs that support mixed martial arts and inspire the youth to take up this sport.

“I have no doubt that this will encourage young athletes to find their inner strength, strive for greatness, and overcome the obstacles they face in the world of mixed martial arts.”
