Muktesh Pardeshi appointed as new Indian Ambassador to Turkey – Top News Bulletin


New Delhi: Veteran diplomat Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi has been appointed as the country's new ambassador to Turkey. Turkey has recently emerged as an influential negotiator country in resolving regional conflicts, including in West Asia. Pardeshi, a 1991 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, is currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a brief statement, “He is expected to take charge soon.”

Played a big role in the G20 summit

The G20 summit was held in September last year. During this time, Pardesh was an important part of the team of officials who played a key role in its successful hosting. He also played an important role in agreeing on the leaders' declaration while resolving differences on the Ukraine conflict. The post of India's ambassador to Turkey has been vacant since June after the outgoing diplomat Virendra Paul died due to prolonged illness.

As Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Pardeshi launched various initiatives to help Indians living in West Asia as well as enhance mutual relations in the region. He was the High Commissioner of India to New Zealand from July 2019 to July 2022. He has been accredited as High Commissioner to Samoa, Vanuatu, Niue and Cook Islands.

Studied from Delhi University

Pardeshi was also the ambassador to Mexico from April 2016 to June 2019. In a diplomatic career spanning three decades, Pardeshi has worked in several Indian embassies including Jakarta (2007-10) and was also a counselor in India's Permanent Mission in Geneva (2004-07). He has studied at Delhi University and has obtained bachelor's and master's degrees from Hindu College, Delhi School of Economics. (Language)
