New Delhi. To strengthen India's position in 6G and quantum technology, Telecom Centre of Excellence (TCoE) India and Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) of Karnataka have signed an agreement to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE).
According to information provided by the Ministry of Communications, VTU – Visvesvaraya Research and Innovation Foundation (VRIF) Bengaluru aims to enhance India's progress in these sectors.
The CoE will be designed on a hub and spoke model. TCOE India will act as a central hub.
According to the government, the COE will function as a premier facility for research and development by leveraging the intellectual and infrastructural capabilities of the 228 colleges affiliated to VTU.
Through the COE, cutting edge research in quantum and 5G and 6G technologies will be promoted. Along with this, partnerships and innovation will also be encouraged.
The CoE will enhance collaboration with key organizations working on telecom standardization such as Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC), India 6G Alliance, TCDSI, academic networks and startup ecosystem.
This will help more than 4 lakh students and more than 2,000 PhD and PhD researchers working in the VTU network. It will also help in commercialization of innovations.
Ajay Chaudhary, Chairman of the Mission Governing Board in the National Quantum Mission, said that 600 scientists and 50 startups in the country are working in quantum technology.
India launched the National Quantum Mission in April 2023. Its objective is to develop capabilities in quantumrelated science and technology.
