Drinking coffee every day can reduce the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and fatty liver!

New Delhi: Drinking 3 to 5 cups of coffee daily can reduce the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and fatty liver, a top neurologist has said.

Coffee is known to provide many health benefits, but experts suggest drinking it without sugar and with less milk.

Dr Sudhir Kumar from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad shared some health benefits of coffee on the social media platform X.

He said, “Drinking coffee may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke, fatty liver, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, depression and some cancers.”

He said, “Drinking coffee increases life span. 3 to 5 cups of coffee per day is safe and beneficial for health.”

He stressed on one important thing and said that avoid adding sugar to coffee.

The expert advised people suffering from insomnia not to drink coffee about 56 hours before sleeping.

He said, “Pregnant women should consume only 1 to 2 cups of coffee per day. People with severe high blood pressure should consume green tea. If you feel like drinking coffee, then one cup of coffee can be taken daily.”

“Coffee is associated with a reduced risk of hypertension due to its high content of antihypertensive nutrients (e.g., vitamin E, niacin, potassium, and magnesium) and polyphenols,” the expert explained.

Kumar suggested that people suffering from severe high blood pressure may prefer green tea over coffee.

Many studies have supported the health benefits of coffee, including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.

A study published online in the April issue of the journal Neurology found that the heaviest coffee drinkers had a 37 percent lower risk of developing Parkinson’s disease than those who didn’t drink coffee.

Another study published in ACS’ Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry showed that compounds present in espresso may help prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. These compounds work by preventing the deposition of tow proteins.
