Indian team must be ready for the tough challenge from Bangladesh: Sunil Gavaskar


New Delhi: Veteran Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels Rohit Sharma and Co need to be cautious in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to begin on September 19.

Sunil Gavaskar believes that the Bangladesh team is coming after clean sweeping Pakistan in the twomatch Test series on its own soil. Now they have to play the first Test match against India on 19 September at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After this, the second Test match will be played at Green Park, Kanpur from 27 October.

Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid Day, “By defeating Pakistan on its home ground, Bangladesh has proved that it is a strong team. Even the last time India toured Bangladesh, Bangladesh had given a tough fight to Team India. Now after defeating Pakistan, they are coming to challenge India.”

Little Master further wrote, “Bangladesh team has good players. Now no team can take them lightly. This is definitely going to be an interesting series.”

Both these test matches will be part of the World Test Championship 20232025. Currently, India is at the top of the table with 68.52 percent points. Bangladesh team is at fourth place in the table with 45.83 percent points.

With the Test series with Bangladesh, a long season of 10 Test matches is also going to start for India where Team India has to play a threematch Test series against New Zealand at home in OctoberNovember.

After this, the Indian team will leave for Australia to participate in the BorderGavaskar Trophy. Where India has to play a fivematch Test series.

On this, Gavaskar wrote, “India have to play 10 Test matches in the next four and a half months and they will have to win at least five Test matches to make it to the final of the World Test Championship. No match will be easy and we are excited for the upcoming season.”

Gavaskar also feels that organising the Duleep Trophy before the start of the international season is a wise decision by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
