Chennai Test: These interesting records were made in India's first innings against Bangladesh

New Delhi. An interesting test series between India and Bangladesh has started as expected. The Indian team started the first test at Chennai's Chepauk Stadium by scoring 376 runs in the first innings. At one point India's score was 34 runs at the loss of 3 wickets. Bangladesh also took 6 wickets of India at 144 runs. But after this, the brilliant partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja not only lifted India but also took it to a respectable score of 376.

This is only the second time in Indian cricket history that India has lost 6 wickets for a score of less than 150 and the tailenders have added 232 runs. In 1971, India had scored 347 runs after losing 6 wickets for a score of 70 against the West Indies in Bridgetown. In this, the lower order batsmen had contributed 277 runs.

In this match, Bangladesh's rightarm fast bowler Hasan Mahmud took 5 wickets for 83 runs. He is only the fifth Bangladesh bowler to do so in Test matches against India. Earlier, Bangladesh's Naimur Rahman (6132), Shakib Al Hasan (562), Mehdi Hasan Miraz (563) and Shahadat Hussain (571) have done this. The special thing is that all these bowlers did this performance in Bangladesh only. Earlier, the best performance by a Bangladeshi bowler in India was Abu Jayed's (4108) in Indore in 2019.

This is only Hasan's fourth Test match and he has taken five wickets in an innings twice. Shahadat Hussain has done this the most number of times, i.e. four times, for Bangladesh, but for this he had to play 38 Test matches. Another special thing is that Hasan Mahmud is only the second pacer to take four wickets on the first day of a Test in India since 2000. Before this, Dale Steyn had taken 5 wickets for 23 runs on the first day in Ahmedabad in 2008.

The pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja made a partnership of 199 runs in this innings which is the fifth highest partnership for India against Bangladesh. But this is India's highest ever partnership for the 7th or lower wicket in Test matches against Bangladesh. It has surpassed the 133run partnership for the 10th wicket between Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan in Dhaka in 2004. Talking about the highest run partnership in Test matches between India and Bangladesh, Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay together scored 283 runs. This match took place in 2015.

Chennai is Ravichandran Ashwin's home ground and he has once again proved to be India's top performer here. This time Ashwin saved the team from trouble by scoring a brilliant century. Apart from scoring two Test centuries in Chennai, Ashwin has also achieved the feat of taking 5 or more wickets in an innings five times.

Ashwin has left behind many big names in the list of players who have taken 5 wickets and scored 100 runs multiple times on the same ground in Tests. Apart from him, among the top allrounders, Garfield Sobers has performed brilliantly at Headingley (two centuries, two 5 wickets), Kapil Dev at Chennai (two centuries, two 5 wickets) and Chris Cairns at Auckland (two centuries, two 5 wickets).

With this, Ashwin has now reached the second position among the players who have scored the most centuries while batting at number 8 or below in Test matches. In this case, only New Zealand spin allrounder Daniel Vettori is ahead of him who has scored 5 centuries.
