Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday reached a village in Haryana's Karnal district to meet the family of a youth who was injured in a road accident abroad. The family of the injured youth Amit said that Gandhi had met Amit during his recent visit to the US. Local Congress leaders in Karnal said that they had no prior information about Gandhi's visit and came to know about it only after he reached Ghogripur village. Gandhi has gone to meet the family of the injured youth at a time when assembly elections are to be held in the state on October 5, 15 days later.
“Rahul Gandhi gave assurance in difficult times”
In these elections, the Congress, which is trying to wrest power from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has made the problems of farmers and unemployment a major election issue. Amit's brother Ajit told media persons in the village that Gandhi reached their house at around six in the morning. He said that some neighboring families were also present at the time. Ajit said, “My younger brother lives in America. Our family is poor. Amit had met with an accident a few months ago. His condition is very bad at this time. He is not able to eat properly and is facing many problems. Rahul ji had met him in America and said that he would meet his family.” He said that Amit had gone to America in search of livelihood and the family had sold their land and mortgaged their house to send him abroad. Ajit said that Gandhi assured them of help in this difficult time.
Rahul Gandhi has visited Haryana earlier also
He said, “We told them that Amit had gone abroad a year ago to earn a livelihood. Rahul ji also talked about farming and asked about unemployment. Some other families were also present there.” Amit's mother Bhimati said that Gandhi was at her house for about 90 minutes and she served him tea. She said, “During this time we also talked to Amit through video call.” Some villagers said that many youths of the village have gone abroad for livelihood. Rahul Gandhi has also made a surprise visit to Haryana earlier. The Congress leader had stayed in Madina village of Sonipat district about a year ago. During this time he interacted with people and spent time with farmers working on the fields. He helped in sowing paddy, drove a tractor and ate food brought by women laborers working in the fields.
