Kathmandu: The Nepal Telecommunication Authority on Friday directed the country's internet and mobile service providers to lift the ban on TikTok in line with the Cabinet decision on the short-video app.
The directive said, “The Authority hereby issues a direction to all concerned internet and mobile service providers to lift the ban against TikTok until further orders.”
On August 22, Nepal's Cabinet decided to lift the ban on TikTok, which was imposed in November last year, reports news agency Xinhua.
“We lifted the ban immediately after receiving instructions from the Nepal Telecommunication Authority,” Sudhir Parajuli, president of the Nepal Internet Service Providers Association, told the news agency.
While lifting the ban, the Cabinet had asked TikTok to fulfil certain conditions while operating the app in Nepal within a period of three months.
It asks TikTok to contribute to promoting tourism in Nepal, make people aware about digital safety, upgrade the quality of public education, and be sensitive while using language on the app.
